Catherine Murphy has been a member of Friends of Hazelhurst since the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery was established in 2000 and is currently a Member of Millhouse Art Society and Continuum Art Society. Catherine studied Industrial Arts at the UNSW, oil painting under the tuition of Archibald, Wynne and Blake finalist, Alexander McKenzie and is currently attending Life Drawing classes at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Gymea.
Catherine is a resident of the Sutherland Shire and has frequent excursions to the South Coast of NSW where she regularly exhibits at the Millhouse Art Gallery in Milton. Catherine held her first exhibition in Darlinghurst in 2008 and has won awards at the annual Milton Ulladulla Millhouse Exhibition and Milton/Ulladulla Artfest. Her work is held in a number of private collections in Australia and overseas and her watercolours were featured in Zushi Japanese Restaurants in Sydney.
Catherine has written and illustrated several books for children and sells individualised cards and invitations. Catherine paints in oil, watercolour and ink and her work, influenced by Asian Art and the Impressionists, includes whimsical paintings and cartoons as well as still life and landscape.
