Early in 2006 Les saw himself with a measure of free time. He decided to take an interest in painting pictures although he had no previous experience. He thought watercolour was a good medium to begin with. However, it is a difficult medium. It tolerates very few mistakes, but watercolours’ transparency takes on beautiful colours and the various paper grounds allow for different textures to appear while many tones can be achieved through the use of contrasting light against dark.
Les's art efforts have been rewarded with several distinctions and seeing his name amongst a selection of new artists appearing in The Australian Artist Magazine. He also participates in Art Direct, Continuum In-House and Hazelhurst Regional Art Gallery exhibitions. The following pictures shown here let the viewer's eye roam over the beautiful colour, tones and composition of the picture's subject matter. Enjoy.
